India’s excellent form in weightlifting continues. Venkat Rahul Ragala wins India’s fourth gold medal in the 85 kg category. Ragala lifted a best of 151 kg to finish joint-first in the snatch round.

In the clean and jerk round, Ragala lifted 182 kg and 187 kg in his first two attempts before failing to lift 191 kg in his third attempt. He eventually finished with a total weight of 338 kg.

Samoa’s Don Opeloge finished with a silver medal with a total lift of 331 kg (151 kg + 180 kg) and Malaysia’s Muhamad Fazrul Azrie Mohdad won the bronze medal with a total lift of 328 kg (145 kg + 183 kg).

Ragala faced tough competition from Samoa’s Don Opeloge. The duo finished with 151 kg in the snatch round. In the clean and jerk round, Opeloge lifted 180 kg in his first attempt, then committed a fault while attempting to lift 188 kg. Thereafter, he failed to lift 191 kg in his third attempt, leaving Ragala to take the gold.

Earlier in the day, veteran Sathish Kumar Sivalingam defended his title in comprehensive fashion in the men's 77 kg weightlifting event. The Indian registered a total of 317 kg which included 144 kg in snatch and 173 kg in clean and jerk. England's Jack Oliver took silver with a total of 312 kg while Francois Etoundi ensured bronze for hosts Australia with 305.
