MCA Moves SC Against Shifting IPL Matches Outside Maharashtra

Mumbai Cricket Association moves the apex court against Bombay HC’s order to shift 13 IPL matches outside the state.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has moved the Supreme Court on 22 April against the Bombay High Court order which directed that IPL matches be shifted outside Maharashtra. The plea was mentioned before a bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh by senior advocate Kapil Sibal which listed the matter for hearing on 25 April.

The Cricket Association in its plea said that it will use treated sewage water instead of potable water for the cricket pitches. The Bombay High Court had on 13 April ordered 13 IPL matches to be shifted out of Maharashtra, in view of the severe drought in the state.

The high court’s direction had come despite an assurance by the BCCI that IPL franchises of Mumbai and Pune had agreed to contribute Rs 5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Drought Relief Fund.
