Krishnappa Gowtham has been one of the few surprise bids in the 2017 auction so far. The Karnataka cricketer came into the auction at a base price of Rs 10 lakh and was picked up by the Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 2 crore.

Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders started the bid for the off-spinning all-rounder. As the bid crossed a crore, Hyderabad joined in before Nita Ambani’s Mumbai Indians bagged the 28-year-old.

Gowtham has been around since 2008 when he was invited to play against a touring Australian side and made his first-class debut in 2012. However, after a gap of three years, he took the field for Karnataka last summer. He picked up 27 wickets in eight matches including a career-best 7 for 108.
