As Star Bowler Bumrah Soars Heights, His Grandad Lives in Poverty

Santokh was a well-to-do businessman in the 80s and 90s and ran his factories with the help of Bumrah’s father.

India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is now an indispensable part of the Indian Team, but things aren’t looking good for his estranged grandfather Sanotkh Bumrah.

Santokh was a well-to-do businessman in the 80s and 90s. He ran three factories in Gujarat with the help of Jasbir, Bumrah’s father. However, after Jasbir’s death in 2001, the business began to crumble.

Today, he lives in poverty with his other son in Kiccha, 260 km away from Dehradun, and hasn’t seen Bumrah in 17 years.

After relocating, he bought two autos in an attempt to make his way through life.

Santokh is a big fan of his grandson’s skills, and says he wants to hug him. In a telephonic conversation with Hindustan Times, Sankoth said:

It feels great to see Jasprit on television screen performing so well in international matches. I pray to god for his success and meet him once before I die.

Hinting at sour relations with his daughter-in-law, Sanotkh tears up as he reminisces about better times.

Jasprit’s mother was not willing to see us. Though recently my daughter visited Ahmedabad. I tried hard to get Jasprit’s contact but couldn’t. I would be grateful if you could please help.

Bumrah’s uncle vows to unite the two members of his family, and says that either Bumrah will have to come to meet them, or they will have to step forward.
