IPL Auction 2020 Concludes in Kolkata

At the end of the 2020 Indian Premier League auction, eight franchises have spent a total of Rs 140 crore to fill 62 of the 73 slots available for the upcoming season. Of those who got themselves an IPL contract today, 29 were overseas players.

While KXIP completed their 25-man squad by winning the bids for 8 players, they go home with a total of Rs 16,50,00,000 – more than any other franchise.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had the most available slots at the start of the day, currently have a 21-man squad after buying eight players.

Pat Cummins (Rs 15.50 cr), Glenn Maxwell (Rs 10.75 cr), Chris Morris (Rs 10 cr), Sheldon Cottrell (Rs 8.5 cr) got the top bids while Piyush Chawla was the most expensive Indian player at this auction after getting bought by CSK for Rs 6.75 crore.

Among the uncapped players, 17-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged the highest bid, getting picked by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 2.4 crore.

IPL Auction 2020 So Far

Thirty three of the 73 available slots have been filled so far in the 2020 Indian Premier League auction, and it’s the Australian cricketers who have bagged the biggest bids.

Rajasthan Royals have picked up seven players so far, the most by any franchise. While RCB, who had gone in with the most available slots (12), have only bought two cricketers – Chris Morris and Aaron Finch.

Pacer Pat Cummins became the most expensive foreign buy ever in the league by fetching a whopping Rs 15.50 crore bid from two-time champions KKR. Veteran Indian spinner Piyush Chawla is the most expensive Indian so far after getting picked by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 6.75 crore.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell returned to Kings XI Punjab with a price tag of Rs 10.75 crore after an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals. Maxwell's compatriot Nathan Coulter-Nile also enjoyed a million dollar payday at the auction as Mumbai Indians shelled out Rs 8 crore for the pacer.

IPL Auction Live: Josh Hazlewood Sold to CSK

CSK bag Josh Hazlewood at his base price of Rs 2 crore while Adam Milne goes unsold as the first session of the auction comes to an end.

Teams will now hand over a list of players they still want to bid on, and those names will be included in the acceleration auction list in the next session.

Bidding for the uncapped cricketers is now underway. After Manjot Kalra, Rohan Kadam and Harpreet Bhatia go unsold, Rahul Tripathi is the first one to get a bid. RCB and KKR enter the mix for the Indian batsman. Tripathi goes to KKR for Rs 60 lakh – four times his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

A total of 15 players including 12 overseas players sold so far.

IPL Auction: Money Purse of Each Franchise

With a 127 players retained by the eight franchises from the previous season, a total of 73 empty slots remain for the IPL season starting in April of which 29 are for foreign players.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have 12 available slots to fill, more than any other franchise in this auction. With nine empty slots, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) is coming into this auction with the biggest purse of Rs 42.70 crore.

Welcome to the live coverage of the Indian Premier League auction!

Eight franchises will bid for the 73 slots up for grabs in Kolkata today. And while the auction for the 13th edition of the league may not be a big one, it promises to be exciting nonetheless.

A total of 338 players including 190 Indians will be available to the franchises. Among the big international players going under the hammer are Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell and Robin Uthappa. However, it’s the young domestic and uncapped players that could walk away with the big deals.
