Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) debutant Prayas Ray Barman has become the youngest cricketer to play in Indian Premier League history.
Barman, who is 16 years and 157 days old, made his debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, 31 March, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Earlier, Afghanistan’s Mujeed Ur Rahman, who made his debut in IPL 2018 with Kings XI Punjab, was the youngest at 17 years and 11 days.
The list of youngest cricketers in IPL also includes Sarfaraz Khan, Pradeep Sangwan and Washington Sundar.
Barman, who played for Bengal, started with a base price was Rs 20 lakh, and was finally signed in at Rs 1.5 crore at the IPL auction in December 2018. The youngest IPL cricketer hails from Durgapur and was trained at the Durgapur Cricket Centre. He moved to Kolkata later.
He grabbed attention with is performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over tournament. Barman topped the bowling charts for Bengal taking 11 wickets in 9 matches with a economy rate of 4.45.
The IPL debutant has also represented India B U-19 in unofficial one-daters against Afghanistan and South Arica’s U-19.
