#GoodNews: World Championships to See More Women Boxers Than Ever

The top boxers in the fray include India’s Mary Kom, who is seeking her sixth world crown.

The Women's World Boxing Championships is set to witness the highest-ever participation, with nearly 300 pugilists from 70 countries taking part in the competition that kicks off on 15 November in New Delhi.

Boxers from 16 countries, including Germany, the US, England, Ukraine, Panama, Australia, Thailand, Bulgaria and Somalia, are arriving early to get acclimatised to the Indian conditions.

India’s Mary Kom, who is seeking her sixth world crown, and the 2016 gold medallist from Italy, Alessia Mesiano, are also in the fray.

Kazakhstan’s Nazyum Kyzaiba, who won a gold in 2016, will also seek to retain the title in 51Kg.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kaye Scott of Australia, Peamwillai Laopeam of Thailand, olympic winners Anastasia Beliakova of Russia, Nouchka Fontjin of the Netherlands and Ingrit Valencia of Colombia are the other big names participating in the 10-day championship.

Finland's Mira Potkonen, who bagged a silver medal in Rio, will be keen to put up a golden performance.
