Sonagachi is still spoken about in whispers in Kolkata, but this football season it has attracted crowds for reasons barring the usual. Kolkata’s largest red light district has decked up in green to support team Brazil this World Cup.

Now, anyone living in Kolkata will tell you that the city bleeds for two teams every World Cup – Argentina and Brazil. With Argentina making an early (and unexpected) exit this time around, all hopes rest on the latter.

An initiative of a local club, the walls of every house in Fakir Chand Street sports the colours of the Brazilian flag. Neymar and Coutinho, however, remain favourites!

Meanwhile, the sex workers in the area say that business slumps during important matches. But the plus side? They get to watch the matches too!

Aage badho, Team Brazil! Here’s Kolkata sending loads of prayers and bhalobasha for you!
