In a freak accident during the India vs Zimbabwe match on Wednesday, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was hit in the eye by a dislodged bail that went through his helmet. But the 34-year-old is not a quitter. The pained skipper elected to continue playing with blurry vision.

The incident happened when Dhoni turned around to look at the ball when he was bowled out by Donald Tiripano in the 17th over.

Just a few hours after India beat Zimbabwe to clinch the series, Captain Dhoni posted a picture of his bloodshot right eye.

After being injured while batting, Dhoni went on to keep for Team India. (Photo: AP)

The caption of the picture read:

That’s what happens when u get hit by bails, lucky only had to keep wkts with blurred vision and pain.

Interestingly, in a similar accident South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher was forced to retire when a ricocheting bail hit him in the face, causing irreparable vision loss in his left eye.

We do hope the smile on Dhoni’s face means he’s feeling better!
