Bangladesh’s Reaction Was ‘Dirty’ After the WC Win: Priyam Garg

Indian skipper Priyam Garg blamed his batsmen after the side lost the Under-19 World Cup final to Bangladesh saying that the 178-run target set wasn’t a good score.

India skipper Priyam Garg termed the three-wicket U-19 World Cup final defeat to Bangladesh saying it was simply "not their day".

India were bowled out for a paltry 177 but had Bangladesh in trouble with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi bowling a superb spell riddled with googlies to reduce them to 102/6 at one stage.

“It wasn’t our day. The boys put up a great show but the results didn’t go our way."

“Very happy with the way we fought, they (bowlers) gave their best. Toss didn’t matter; there was something in the wicket,” the Indian skipper added.

Bangladesh’s bowlers started well. Our batsmen played well too but we hoped to get a few more runs. 215-220 would’ve been a good score. 178 is not good a total,” said Garg.

Garg lauded his bowlers for responding well despite the low total.

“Our bowlers responded pretty well and Bangladesh batted well. Very pleased with our bowlers. It’s a good experience playing here in South Africa. Prior to the World Cup, we played a series here and that was also good."

Meanwhile, after Bangladesh had won the final, the players of the two teams were seen engaging in an exchange of words and even some pushing and shoving on the field, leaving a Bangladeshi flag damaged in the process.

Sprinting towards the field after a thrilling victory, Bangladeshi players were believed to have passed unwelcome comments on Indian players which triggered an altercation between both sets of parties.

“We were easy. We think its part and parcel of the game - you win some and you lose some. But their reaction was dirty. I think it shouldn’t have happened. But it’s okay.”

According to ESPNcricinfo, even though the details of the incident are yet to come out, the ICC is understood to be taking the issue "seriously" ahead of a fuller update from match referee Graeme Labrooy.
