Virat Kohli Sets Record for Most Consecutive Hundreds in Home ODIs
Virat Kohli also became the first player to score four consecutive centuries against the same opponent.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli set the record for the most consecutive centuries in Home ODIs during the third one day international against West Indies in Pune on Saturday. The Delhi batsman also became the first player to score four consecutive centuries against the same opponent.
The 29-year-old has gone past Zaheer Abbas’s record for most successive hundreds in Home ODIs. Kohli notched two centuries (140 and 157*) in the first two ODIs against West Indies in this series and 113 against New Zealand in Kanpur in October 2017.
Key Stats from the third ODI:
- Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to score hundreds in three consecutive ODIs; he would be the tenth batsman overall to accomplish such a feat.
- Jasprit Bumrah recorded his best bowling figures (4/35) in ODIs at home.
- Ashley Nurse and Kemar Roach added 56 runs for the 9th wicket; that would be the Windies’ best 9th wicket partnership in ODIs in India. The pair bettered the previous record of 44* posted by Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach in Guwahati in the first ODI of this series.
Virat Kohli walked into bat in the third over after opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Jason Holder for just 8 runs. The Indian captain kept the scoreboard ticking even as wickets tumbled around him. India were chasing a target of 284 runs.
However, Kohli was dismissed by Marlon Samuels when India needed 64 runs off 51 balls to win with three wickets in hand.
The home side lost their last three wickets for 20 runs and lost the match by 43 runs. With this win, West Indies leveled the five-match series 1-1.
Earlier, pacer Jasprit Bumrah denied Shai Hope a second consecutive century on his way to a four-wicket haul but the West Indies made a superb recovery after a shaky start to post a respectable 283/9.
Returning to the team after being rested for the first two matches, Bumrah emerged as the most effective bowler, conceding just 35 in his 10 overs.
