Opener Shikhar Dhawan became the fastest Indian after captain Virat Kohli to reach the 5,000-run mark in ODIs on Wednesday, 23 January. The 33-year-old batman achieved the feat in 118 innings – four more than Kohli’s 114 – during India’s first one-dayer of the five-match series against New Zealand in Napier.

The visitors had earlier bowled the hosts out for 157, with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav returning with figures of 4/39 in 10 overs. Seamer Mohammed Shami finished with an excellent 3/19 in six overs while there were also two wickets for leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Captain Kane Williamson top-scored for the hosts with 64 off 81 balls at the McLean Park.
