Road Safety World Series Cancelled Due to Coronavirus

The tournament featured the likes Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara and other yesteryear cricketers.

Reportedly, the Road Safety World Series might be postponed to May or October depending upon the availability of players.

With most of the sporting events in the country either getting postponed or cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the much-hyped ongoing Road Safety World Series also joins the long list.

According to reports, the organisers of the Road Safety World Series, which featured Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara among host of yesteryear stars called off the tournament keeping in mind players and public safety.

"In the interest of public safety, the organisers have agreed to reschedule the remaining matches. These matches will be played when the situation will be conducive to hold them," the one of the sources said.

The organisers had earlier cancelled the matches which were to be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune and relocated them to the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

It was also earlier decided that the matches would he held in empty stadiums, but now they have been cancelled for the time being.

Maharashtra reported 11 cases of coronavirus on Wednesday. Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, several sporting events in India and across the globe have been cancelled or postponed.
