Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant received his Test cap ahead of the third Test against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The 20-year-old replaced Tamil Nadu keeper Dinesh Karthik.

According to ESPN, it is not know whether Karthik has been left out due to a poor performance with the bat or because he injured his finger during the Lord’s Test.

Pant showed excellent form during the recently-concluded India A tour of England. He recorded scores of 64* (vs England Lions), 67* (vs West Indies A) and 61 (vs England Lions) during the series.

Pant has become India’s 291st Test cricketer and the fifth wicket-keeper to play for India since Dhoni retired from the longest format of the game in 2014.

Incidently, exactly ten years ago, Virat Kohli made his international debut against Sri Lanka in 2008.

Take a look at how Twitterati reacted to Pant’s first Test cap.
