As cricketer Jacob Martin continues to be in critical condition since his accident on 28 December 2018, the Indian cricketing fraternity has come out strongly in support of the former Baroda captain and his family.
Not only former players, even newcomer Krunal Pandya, who made his T20 debut for India this season, came out in support of Martin. He handed over a blank cheque to Sanjay Patel, for Martin’s treatment.
The former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Baroda Cricket Association is leading the charge of gathering funds to meet the high cost of Martin’s treatment.
After assuring every kind of assistance to Martin and his family with the medical expenses, on Monday Sourav Ganguly spoke to Khayati, the wife of ailing Jacob Martin.
Sanjay Patel arranged the Sourav-Khayati conversation.
Immediately after the conversation, Ganguly made a bank transfer in Martin’s favour.
Meanwhile, Patel mentioned that Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra approached him again, repeating their wish to assist Martin and his family in “whatever manner is useful.”
Apart from the international and national cricketers, in a wonderful gesture, two ‘young cricketers’, one from Mumbai and the other from Ahmedabad also made contributions of Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively for Martin’s treatment.
Martin, who extensively damaged his lungs and liver in the accident, is still on ventilator support and according to doctors, the next “48 hours” are crucial.
