Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the fifth Indian batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for India on Saturday in Sydney during the first 50-over match against Australia.

Dhoni joins the illustrious list, which also includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli, who have scored 10,000 ODI runs for India.

Last year, Dhoni had crossed the 10,000-run mark in ODIs in England, but it included 174 runs, which came for Asia XI in three matches.

Finally on Saturday, Dhoni reached his 10,000th ODI run for India with a single off Jhye Richardson. Dhoni’s 10,000 runs for India came in 330 ODIs at an average of 49.75. He also has scored 9 hundreds and 67 half-centuries for India,

In ODI history, Dhoni is the 12th player to reach the 10,000 run-mark. Apart from the four Indians, the list also includes Tillekaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka), Ricky Ponting (Australia), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), Brian Lara (West Indies) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan).

India's Sachin Tendulkar was the first batsman to reach the 10000-run mark. Tendulkar scored his 10000th run in his 259th innings against Australia in Indore on March 31, 2001. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was the fastest with 205 innings, a feat he achieved last year. Sourav Ganguly is third on the list with 263 innings.

Dhoni is the sixth quickest to reach the landmark, after Ponting (266) and Kallis (272). He is the second wicket-keeper after Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara to breach the mark.
