Pusarla V Sindhu spent her birthday, 5 July, contesting the Indonesian Open badminton tournament being held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Indian shuttler, who turned 23, celebrated with a win over Japanese challenger Aya Ohori 21-17, 21-14.

But what made the day extra special was local fans who travelled to watch and wish the star Indian shuttler on her birthday. What’s more, they even brought a cake along to make the party complete!

Sindhu recorded a video on the special day to appreciate her fans’ wishes and give them a heartfelt thanks for their support.

Her 23rd birthday caps off a successful year for Sindhu, in which she secured Gold at the 2017 Korea Open, as well as second place finishes at the 2017 BWF Super Series Finals, the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 India Open. She also made deep runs in several other tournaments, including the All-England Open in March 2018.

These are extra feathers into Sindhu’s already laden cap: her silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and two prior bronze medals at the BWF World Championships as a teenager speak for themselves.
