India’s Wushu athlete Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh (60 kg) settled for a bronze medal after losing the semi-final 0-2 against Iran’s Erfan Ahangarian at the Asian Games on Wednesday. But this match was about more than just the result.

Surya sustained a brutal ankle injury during the first round of the match. Even though he was grimacing in pain, he continued to compete in the semi-final. The Indian limped around the mat and towards the end, he could only just stand on his two feet.

At the end of the match, the Iranian showed brilliant sportsmanship when he picked up Surya and took him to the sideline of the mat.
