It’s been a year of many firsts for Anirban Lahiri but this week may well be the one he will remember for a long, long time.
Even as the ace golfer is practising his chops on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Korea for the President’s Cup later this week, the Bangalore native just received news that he’s earned a full playing card on the PGA Tour for next year.
Lahiri is now only the third Indian ever, after Arjun Atwal and Jeev Milkha Singh to manage such a feat.
Congratulations to Anirban for achieving what is always a professional golfer’s dream – that is playing on the PGA Tour. His performances this year have been brilliant. And now he is there for President’s Cup. He is setting new standards and he is great for Indian golf.
– Jeev Milkha Singh, Indian golfer
The Indian ace, who skipped the last two events of the four-event finals, finished in the Top-25 of the Money List compiled for the Four event finals and joined the Top-25 earners from the regular season. A total of 50 cards are given out at the end of the Web.com Tour Final Series.
He will now play alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods almost every week.
Shifting focus back to the week ahead and Lahiri, a winner of two European Tour events at Malaysian Open and Hero Indian Open earlier this year, is in Incheon to be part of the Internationals team which will face off against United States in the President’s Cup.
Lahiri has a bunch of Asia-born players in the team, including Thongchai Jaidee, winner of the European Open recently, and Danny Lee, who was in Top-5 at the PGA Tour Championships, but he is in fact the first Indian ever to represent the ‘Internationals team’ in the event’s 10 previous editions.
