A batsman would usually get off the mark in Test cricket with a quick single, but in Rishabh Pant’s case, it was slightly different. On the wicketkeeper-batsman’s second delivery on Test debut against England, Pant came dancing down the track and struck the ball over the straight boundary off Adil Rashid’s bowling.

Under pressure after losing the first two Tests, India made three changes to their playing eleven by bringing in Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. Murali Vijay, Kuldeep Yadav and Dinesh Karthik were left out.

India ended Day 1 of the third Test at 307/6. Hardik Pandya fell to James Anderson off the last ball of the day for 18 runs. Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 22 runs.
