Approximately 400 people attacked Chingravati Police Chowki in Bulandshahr on 3 December, after cow carcasses were found in a nearby forest. The mob shot and killed police inspector Subodh Kumar.

On 3 January, the police arrested a local Bajrang Dal leader – Yogesh Raj – the man responsible for instigating the mob into the attack. Two other arrests had been made. A man named Kalua, confessed to attacking the inspector with an axe, and Prashant Natt, another man, who shot and killed the inspector after the axe attack.
