Thousands of children affected by last month’s earthquake in Nepal returned to schools on Sunday, a working day in the Himalayan nation.

According to a UNICEF statement, 32,000 classrooms were destroyed and 15,352 classrooms were damaged in the two major earthquakes in Nepal.

With most school buildings partially or totally damaged, the Nepal government has ordered that classes be held in temporary classrooms.

It was a detour for Birendra Karmacharya while taking his two sons to school, and a challenge to comfort his four-year-old son Saksham, who had his first day in school.
