Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corporation, and former supermodel Jerry Hall got engaged over the weekend and announced their pending nuptials on Tuesday. It will be the fourth marriage for Murdoch, 84, with Jerry Hall, 59.
The model, born in Mesquite in 1956, was one of the most photographed models of the 1970s, dated Roxy Music musician Bryan Ferry before meeting Mick Jagger.
It will be Jerry Hall’s first official marriage after an unofficial ceremony with Mick Jagger in 1990 when the couple married in a Hindu ceremony in Bali, was declared invalid after the pair ended their 23-year relationship in 1999.
Daughter of an alcoholic truck driver father, she got her first job at the age of 11 cleaning horse stables.
She set out for Paris at 16, where she found a career as a model. Things changed when she got to pose in the guise of a mermaid, on the cover of Roxy Music’s album Siren.
This was when she fell for Brian Ferry, frontman of the band Roxy Music. The relationship lasted two years.
She was the face of Yves Saint Laurent Opium perfume and Revlon cosmetics and starred in several music videos.
By 1977, Hall had been on 40 magazine covers including Vanity Fair, Playboy, Vogue and Cosmopolitan.
Her next big romance was with Mick Jagger, while she was still with Ferry. Jagger and Hall were together since 1976 and had four children. They tied the knot only in 1990 and split in 1999 after Jagger cheated on her.
After splitting with Mick Jagger she had a series of relationships, including film producer George Waud, London banker Tim Attias, and scientist Armand Leroi, her most recent boyfriend.
After a string of “Mrs Robinson” romances, she settled for the Australian-born Murdoch.
On 25 October 2015, Hall was reported to be dating business magnate Rupert Murdoch. The couple were seen in public together at the Rugby World Cup final on 1 November 2015. Hall and Murdoch announced their engagement with a listing in Murdoch’s The Times on 11 January 2016.
