Two single-seat aerobatic planes collided in the sky near Italy’s Adriatic shore and crashed into the sea on Sunday, killing one pilot and injuring the other.
A video released by the Italian ANSA news agency showed one plane curving down into the other, then both plummeting toward water as beachgoers watched.
Teramo’s fire department said that one plane crashed just offshore near Tortoreto, a town in central Italy, and that the pilot was quickly rescued and taken to a hospital, where his injuries were being evaluated.
Fire officials said the other pilot was found dead under the fuselage of his plane about a mile (two kilometres) offshore.
The cause of the collision is being investigated.
