Donald Trump – The 45th US President

I know you’ve been here a long time and it’s been a long night and it’s been a long campaign, but I can say, we can wait a little longer, can’t we? Several states are too close to call, so we’re not going to have anything more to say tonight.

Canada Immigration Website Appears to Crash as Trump Lead Grows

Maybe some Americans were serious when they threatened they would move to Canada if Republican presidential candidate became successful in his often polarising campaign for the White House.

Canada's main immigration website appeared to suffer repeated outages on Tuesday night as Trump took the lead in several major states and his prospects for winning the U.S. presidency turned markedly higher.

Some users in the United States, Canada and Asia saw an internal serve error message when trying to access the http://www.cic.gc.ca/ website.

Indian-American Krishnamoorthi Wins US Congressional Election

Dollar, Mexican Peso, Stocks Sink as Trump Takes Election Lead

The US dollar sank and stock markets slammed into reverse in wild Asian trade on Wednesday as every new exit poll in the US presidential election showed the race to be a nail-biter, sending investors stampeding to safe-haven assets.

Sovereign bonds and gold shot higher while the Mexican peso went into near free-fall as investors faced the real possibility of a shock win by Republican Donald Trump.

Markets fear a Trump victory could cause such economic and global uncertainty to prevent the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates in December, as long expected.

The scale of the scare was clear in the Mexican peso, where the dollar surged over 7 percent in the biggest daily move since the global financial crisis.

The peso has become a touchstone for sentiment on the election as Trump's trade policies are seen as damaging to its export-heavy economy.

Asian stocks first rose only to retreat more than 1 percent as the session wore on and more election results flooded in, while US stock futures surrendered modest gains and recoiled more than 3 percent.

Amidst all the election frenzy, Donald Trump tweeted a fairly disturbing image with his family, among others.

Polls in Indiana and Kentucky Close; Virginia and Ohio Will Be Vital

Clinton led Trump, 44 percent to 39 percent, in the last Reuters/Ipsos national tracking poll before Election Day. The poll gave her a 90 percent chance of defeating Trump and becoming the first woman elected US president, reported Reuters.

Donald Trump has sued the registrar of voters in Clark County, Nevada over a polling place in Las Vegas that had been allowed to remain open late last week to accommodate people who were lined up to vote.

Wikileaks Denies Trying to Influence Election

After releasing documents about the Democratic party at the height of the election campaigns, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said his organisation had no desire to affect who would be elected president.

This is not due to a personal desire to influence the outcome of the election. The Democratic and Republican candidates have both expressed hostility towards whistleblowers … Publishing is what we do. To withhold the publication of such information until after the election would have been to favour one of the candidates above the public’s right to know.
Julian Assange

Assange had previously claimed that his leaks would result in Hillary Clinton’s arrest.

Investor appetite for risky assets was lower and the CBOE Volatility index, also termed Wall Street's "fear gauge", was up 3 percent on Monday after witnessing its largest one-day drop since late June.

According to the final Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation poll, Clinton has a 90 percent chance of defeating Trump and was on track to win 303 votes in the Electoral College to Trump's 235.

Donald Trump might be trailing in surveys but the Republican nominee is more popular than his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in Google searches in the US.

Data released by Google shows Trump dominating search in 38 states till yesterday, including in the battleground states of Florida and Michigan.

Google data also shows that immigration is the top Trump-related search topic, followed by abortion and race issues, Fox News reported.

This poll has been extremely stressful for many Americans, according to surveys,

An ABC poll found out that women were more stressed than men, while whites without college degrees were the least stressed.

Dixville Notch Gives it to Hillary

Dixville Notch, the tiny town in northern New Hampshire with a registered population of 12 in the 2010 census, has already cast its ballots shortly after midnight as per tradition on Election Day.

Hillary Clinton has won in the little town of eight voters, with her winning four votes and Donald Trump getting two, while Gary Johnson bagged one vote.

This could be Dixville's last year of voting in the midnight elections since a New England businessman plans to it redevelop the area as a ski resort. This could bring the population to over a 100 people.

Americans are choosing a new president on Tuesday, after a long campaign of numbing negativity. But this election is also making history because the country has never had a woman as president, not to mention the spouse of an ex-president.

And it’s not just Democrat Hillary Clinton’s candidacy that is unique. Never before has America had a president like, well, Republican nominee Donald Trump, who severely lacks the public-service background unlike everybody who came to office before him. Whether America chooses it first female president or the billionaire outsider, it will be turning a corner.

Trump pronounced in advance that the election is rigged, in what sounded like a hedge should he lose. He warned without evidence that Clinton partisans would commit fraud and prodded his supporters to watch for misdeeds at polling stations.

I want to be a President for all Americans, not just those who support me in this election.

It’s not just my name and my opponent’s name on the ballot, it’s the kind of country we want to leave for our children and grandchildren.
Hillary Clinton

The prospect of vigilante election monitoring and the anger seething behind that impulse raised concerns about confrontations on Tuesday, especially if the result is close.

An estimated 46 million people are likely to vote in advance. Colorado, Oregon and Washington are mostly vote-by-mail states.

The presidential nominees are expected to vote the old-fashioned way, trooping to their polling places in New York and undoubtedly trailed by cameras.

Their running mates, Tim Kaine of Virginia and Mike Pence of Indiana, are likely to vote at home, later heading for New York to team up with their principals after spending much of the last three months promoting their respective tickets on their own.
