Most of mainstream American press featured in the “highly anticipated award” list.
The highly anticipated ‘Fake News Awards’ by US President Donald Trump were announced on Wednesday, 17 January, and The New York Times won the title.
Other recipients of Trump's unique award were ABC News, CNN, Time and Washington Post.
Trump announced the award through a tweet on Wednesday. The website GOP.com – where the winners were listed – crashed soon after Trump announced his Fake News Awards.
The post quoted unnamed studies and claimed:
In a subsequent tweet, Trump said despite some "very corrupt and dishonest" media coverage, there are many great reporters he respects.
Topping the list was The New York Times' Paul Krugman story which claimed on the day of Trump's historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover.
ABC News' Brian Ross was positioned second. It "CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report," the website said.
CNN received the third place for "FALSELY" reporting that candidate Donald Trump and his son Donald J Trump Jr had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks.
The list also mentioned a story that refuted claims of the Polish First Lady denying a handshake with Trump, and “busted the claim” with a photograph.
It also had a gif of Trump with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, both overfeeding fish, not just Trump, as the media had claimed.
Trump had, on 2 January, announced that he would give away awards to media houses for "dishonesty and bad reporting".
Trump had coined the term 'Fake News' during his presidential campaign, targeting media houses for "biased" news.
