Everyone looks forward for this TIME of the year.

With German Chancellor Angela Merkel being announced as TIME magazine’s latest Person of the Year, we take a trip back in time to see who has had the honour of being on the coveted cover.

2015

This year, the dynamic Angela Merkel was chosen to be on the December cover of the magazine. The chancellor of Germany since 2005, Merkel has powered through the variou crises that have plagued Europe this year – from the economic crisis and immigration to terrorism. 2014

Last year was a tough one as the Ebola Epidemic spread all over Africa and led to scares all around the world. But the epidemic was contained after a point. For their heroic efforts and success in containing the deadly outbreak, the Ebola fighters were adjudged the 2014 Person of the Year

2013

A pope from the new world, with immense energy, extreme compassion and innate understanding. Pope Francis came into the church when needed the most, creating a positive change with modern ideas.

2012

One of the world’s most powerful men and the current president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, bagged the honour in 2012.

2011

Occupy Wall Street, Arab Springs and more. These protests didn’t just make noise, they shook the world. No wonder then that the 2011 honour was given to “The Protestor”.

2010

The man who changed who revolutionalised the way we communicate with one another. The man who initiated the biggest change in the mode of communication – heralding the era of social media. For all this and more, Mark Zuckerberg bagged the 2010 Person of the Year.

2009

The chairman of the US central bank from 2006-2014, economist Ben Bernanke gave TIME magazine a long list of reasons to name him their Person of The Year in 2009.

2008

President Barack Obama bagged this honour for the first time in 2008, soon after he was sworn in as one of the most powerful country’s in the world. The photo on his TIME cover was inspired by his campaign posters, “Yes, We Can!”

2007

A man that rose to rule Russia and will probably remain in power for a long time to come, powered his way to the 2007 Person of the Year position. Presenting Vladimir Putin.

2006

And then there were three. Good samaritans Bill and Melinda Gates, and Bono were on the cover in 2005. The trio share something incredible – the drive to end poverty, disease and war.
