We’ve all been at the mercy of social media when it randomly decides to circulate an old, embarrassing photo that should ideally be buried ten foot under the earth.

The latest to join the bandwagon is Thailand King Maha Vajiralongkorn, when a footage of him sporting ‘fake’ tattoos in a crop top surfaced on Facebook on Monday.

The Thai authorities threatened to sue Facebook if they did not take the video down by Tuesday, reported The Daily Mail.

The video was reportedly filmed in Munich, Germany in July last year.

The video showed the 64-year-old King roaming around a mall in his crop top, with a woman by his side.

While the video was geo-blocked by the social media site following Thailand’s threat, authorities said that over 130 pages with the video were still accessible.

Under Thailand’s strict lese-majeste laws, an offender insulting the royalty by sharing material is liable to be jailed for up to 15 years.

According to a report by The Sun, Takorn Tantasith, head of Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said:

If even a single illicit page remains, we will immediately discuss what legal steps to take against Facebook Thailand.

The monarch came into power last year after his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej died last year. The new King has often been called a ‘playboy’ by media, with three marriages to his credit.
