Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya may be forced to resign as Sri Lanka’s cricket selector over a sex tape controversy, Deccan Chronicle reported on 1 June. “It is very bad public perception and we don’t want him to continue as a selector,” the daily quoted a top Sri Lanka cricket board official as saying.
Earlier, on 24 May, Colombo Telegraph reported that the 47-year-old filmed the video, which he then made public. The website also quoted the woman in the video as saying, “This is revenge. He himself recorded it. This was filmed when we were lovers”.
According to the report, the woman planned to lodge a complaint with the National Centre for Cyber Security in Sri Lanka.
Jayasuriya, one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised cricketers, has scored over 6,000 runs in Tests and over 13,000 runs in ODIs. He was also the former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in the Sri Lankan government.
The Quint could not independently verify the report. Jayasuriya has not commented on the allegations so far.
