Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in India on Sunday, 10 June, after wrapping up his two-day visit to China during which he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit and held nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings, including with President Xi Jinping.

China, India Will Never be Apart: Indian Ambassador to China
Ahead of the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi, Indian ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale said that the two countries would work out their differences to ensure progress and prosperity for both.
According to The Times of India, Bambawale stated that the Wuhan meeting was significant in allowing the two countries to arrive at a consensus, saying, "We are not going to be going away from each other or apart from each other. We are going to do this together". Bambawale added that the summit to be held in China stood for “multi-polarity” and sent the message that big countries could exist in peace with other countries.
India-Pak Unlikely to Hold Bilateral Meeting
PM Modi will hold one-on-one meetings with other state leaders attending the summit. However, India and Pakistan are unlikely to hold a formal meeting, reported ANI.
PM Modi Likely to Speak on Terrorism, Trade
In his address at the two-day SCO summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will arrive in Qingdao on Saturday, is likely to articulate India's position on dealing with major challenges facing the world including ways to tackle terrorism, and boosting trade and investment in the region.
This will be India’s first SCO summit since it became a full member in 2017.
The summit in this eastern Chinese port city is taking place under the shadow of Washington's pull out from the Iran nuclear deal, its sanctions regime against Russia, and frictions with China over the trade tariffs.

Following PM Modi’s meeting with Chinese President Xi, two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. One was on sharing hydrological information of Brahmaputra river by China to India and the other was on amendment of Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for exporting rice from India to China to include non-Basmati rice.

Vijay Gokhale Addresses the media on PM Modi's China Visit
Speaking to the media, Foreign Secretary, Vijay Gokhale said that one of the important outcome of today’s meeting was that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s has accepted PM Modi’s invitation for an informal summit in 2019.
Calling the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping a substantive one, Gokhale said, “President Xi Jinping began by making positive assessment of Wuhan summit. He described it as 'a new starting point' in our bilateral relations while PM described it as 'milestone in our relations'.”
Gokhale also announced that a new people to people mechanism will be set up between India and China, the first meeting for which will be held this year.
“The Indian side will be headed by the External Affairs Ministry, while the Chinese side will be headed by the state council and Foreign Minister Wang Yi,” Gokhale added.

India, China to Identify Projects in Capacity Building in Afghanistan
India and China agreed that they will jointly move forward in identifying a specific project in the area of capacity building in Afghanistan, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told the media on Saturday, 9 June.
During the informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Wuhan in April, the two leaders had agreed to undertake a joint India-China economic project in Afghanistan.
Modi today had detailed discussions with Xi on bilateral and global issues on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Gokhale said that on Afghanistan there was a brief discussion on the projects.
One of the outcomes of today's meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi is that India and China have agreed that they will move forward in identifying a specific project initially in the area of capacity building, he said.
"But it would be a joint project in Afghanistan so we now have to begin the process of identifying it," Gokhale said.

PM Modi Addresses SCO Leaders, Talks About Tourism, Terrorism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 10 June, said that connectivity with the neighbourhood and in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) region is India's priority as he stressed that his country was committed to extend full cooperation to a successful outcome of the Summit.
Noting that only 6 percent of foreign tourists in India are from SCO countries, the prime minister said this can easily be doubled.
"Increasing awareness of our shared cultures can help boost this number.We will organise a SCO food festival and a Buddhist festival in India," he said.
Citing Afghanistan as an "unfortunate example" of effect of terrorism, Modi said he hoped the brave steps towards peace taken by President Ashraf Ghani will be respected by all in the region, apparently referring to a cease-fire announced by the Afghan leader for the Eid festival.

Ratified Action Plan for Long Term Friendship: Xi Jinping
Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the SCO nations ratified an action plan for implementing the treaty on long term friendship.
“We have had an in-depth exchange of views on major international and regional issues. We have ratified an action plan for implementing the treaty on long term good neighborliness, friendship and co-operation of the SCO member states,” said Jinping.
