What do we know of the man who killed 50 people and injured dozens more in the worst ever mass shooting in the history of the United States?

A security guard by profession, 29-year-old Omar Mateen’s family was from Afghanistan, but he was born in New York, and his family later shifted to Florida. His ex-wife says he was mentally ill and abusive. While his father, Seddique Mateen, a fringe political commentator who rails against Pakistan and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, said he is shocked by the actions of his son.
