In the wake of Stephen Hawking passing away on Wednesday, ace Brazillian footballer Neymar shared a photo of himself on a wheelchair as "homage" to the scientist. Twitteretti were quick to call out the 26-year-old's post.

Neymar shared a photo, in which he is seen donning just a pair of shorts and sitting on a wheelchair.

People slammed him for likening his recent toe and ankle injury to Hawking’s battle against ALS for more than 50 years.

“You have to have a positive attitude and get the best out of every situation you are in,” wrote Neymar, ending it with Hawking’s name.

“Because a multimillionaire footballer stuck in a chair for a few weeks while a small bone heals is just like Stephen Hawking,” sports journalist Sebastian Smith tweeted.

Hawking, who donned many hats including that of scientist, cosmologist and professor, breathed his last on on Wednesday, 14 March, at the age of 76. He was wheelchair-bound for decades, suffering from ALS, a rare form of motor neuron disease.
