Want Facebook to stop sharing your personal data to advertisers? Soon, you might have an option of paying for the privilege.

In an interview with NBC’s Today show, Facebook’s Chief Operation Officer Sheryl Sandberg said users may have to pay to disallow their data to be used for targeted advertising.

Facebook has been on the receiving end of a global backlash since the Cambridge Analytica scandal broke out, in which 87 million users' data could have been compromised.

In the interview, Sandberg was asked if the Silicon Valley-based giant could come up with a tool that allows people to restrict Facebook from using their profile data to stop targeted ads.

“We have different forms of opt-out,” Sandberg replied. “We don’t have an opt-out at the highest level. That would be a paid product.”
