Republican presidential nominee has been vocal with his hate for various communities on social media and the employees of Facebook have debated whether he should be removed from the platform, for violating the rules of hate speech, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Mark Zuckerberg, in December, ruled that it would be inappropriate to censor the candidate.
Employees felt very strongly on the issue and complained to Zuckerberg and other managers that the site was bending its rules for Trump. Some of them even threatened to quit.
Senior members of Facebook’s policy team divulged more details on its policy on Friday.
It was also an important policy update as Facebook face scrutiny for censoring a photo of the “napalm girl” back in September.
This week, controversy bubbled as a top executive in Facebook Peter Thiel had recently disclosed he would be donating $1.25 million to the Trump campaign. Zuckerberg had asked employees to be tolerant toward Thiel’s activities as he saw it as a way to cultivate diversity.
