The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau once again came out in support of minorities by observing the first fast of the Islamic month of Ramzan on 7 June. Canada is clocking one of the longest fasts in the world this year at over 16 hours (sunrise to sunset), but clearly the Prime Minister wasn’t daunted even a wee bit.

Trudeau tweeted about the iftar, the meal at sunset which marks the end of the fast for the day:

While world leaders sent their best wishes to fasting Muslims all over the globe, Justin Trudeau took it a notch higher.

On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those observing this holy month a blessed and peaceful Ramadan. Muslims in Canada and around the world will embark upon a month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer, and reflection to commemorate the revealing of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Earlier in May, Trudeau also became the first sitting Canadian Prime Minister to raise the Pride Flag from Parliament Hill in Ontario.
