NASA Astronaut Captures Amazing View From Space Station

This view is from the moment when the ISS was passing over Kiribati, about 2600 kilometres south of Hawaii.

Astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) witness our world in amazing ways, ways that most of us earthlings can’t even imagine. This particular view, though, has to rank right at the top for even the lucky astronauts at the ISS.

This view is from the moment when the ISS was passing over Kiribati, a small island nation about 2600 kilometres (1,600 miles) south of Hawaii.

An astronaut took the time to take this broad, short-lens photograph of Earth’s night lights while looking over the far reaches of the home planet.

Astronauts on the International Space Station see the Earth at night on every orbit. They captured this broad, short-lens stunning view of Earth’s night lights while looking out over the remote reaches of the central equatorial Pacific Ocean on 9 August 2015.

As Gateway of Astronaut Photography reveals, this beautiful photograph ISS044-E-45215 was clicked on 9 August 2015 by a member of the Expedition 44 crew, using a powerful Nikon D4 digital camera which houses a 28 millimeter lens, and is provided by the ISS Crew Earth Observations Facility and the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit, Johnson Space Center.
