CLAIM

In a video doing the rounds on social media, it is being claimed that the Hyderabad veterinary doctor was raped and murdered for speaking against cow slaughter in the state. The claim further says that she was involved in a sting operation that exposed the illegal butchering of cows in the region.

The claim also says that the police was hand-in-glove with the “Muslim lobby” which murdered the doctor and framed charges against the witnesses in the case. “When public outrage grew, the police killed the four accused because court proceeding would’ve exposed the truth,” the claim said.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The Quint could confirm that not only is the video being shared with a misleading claim, the doctor who can be seen speaking in the video is not the 26-year-old Hyderabad-based vet.

Right in the beginning of the video, the announcer, while inviting the doctor to speak, addresses her as Dr Divya Reddy. We could also find the original video on Klimoms wellness and farms’ YouTube channel.

WHO IS DR DIVYA REDDY?

A Google keyword search of Dr Divya Reddy’s name directed us to a report by the news daily, Deccan Chronicle. According to the report, Dr Divya is a 35-year-old engineering graduate from Hyderabad, who is an entrepreneur and the founder of Klimom Wellness and Farms. She received the National Gopal Ratna Award from the Government of India last year and that’s when this video was recorded.

KEY FINDINGS OF THE CASE

The Supreme Court has now appointed a former judge to look into the encounter killing of the four accused, there is no information available in public domain which hints at a cow slaughter angle.

A few days ago, The Quint also debunked the claim regarding the identity of the four accused. Contrary to the claim, there was no hiding of the identity in the case.
