CLAIM

A video doing the rounds on social media claims that riots broke out in Jodhpur, Rajasthan post the Congress’ win in three states namely Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The message along with the video reads:

“जोधपुर में कोग्रेस आने पर रामराज्य का आगाज जय हो” (Translated: Congratulations on the arrival of ‘Ramrajya’ in Jodhpur with Congress’ victory)

The video has been shared by several social media users on Facebook and Twitter.

TRUE OR FALSE?

A reverse image search of screenshots taken from the video showed that it is not from Jodhpur, Rajasthan but from Morbi in Gujarat. Violence had broken out in Kalika area of Morbi town on 8 December in the evening. In the incident, a 13-year-old boy was killed by a bullet and four people were injured, reported The Indian Express.

Various news channels have shared the video of the incident with identical narratives on YouTube.

The Morbi police told The Quint that the incident happened due to personal reasons and there were no political interests behind it.

The police on 10 December reportedly booked three people in relation to murder and rioting. Two groups had a face-off on 8 December that led to firing in which Vishal Bambhaniya, a teenager, was killed and Imran Sumra, Siraj Sandhi, Arif Mir and a minor girl were left injured.

Furthermore, as many as 15 unidentified people have been allegedly booked for creating riots.
