A video of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Arun Govil speaking to a reporter is being shared on social media with the claim that he made statements critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The post is captioned, "BJP MP Arun Govil lashes out at BJP. As soon as Parliament starts, Modi flees abroad."
What we found: We ran a Google reverse image search and found a post by Asian News International (ANI) on X which showed us the original video.
In the original clip, the BJP MP addressed the Opposition while answering a question about Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise ahead of the state's Assembly elections.
He made a pointed critique of the their disruptive behavior in Parliament, stating that it showed the Opposition's "bad attitude."
Continuing to speak about the Opposition, Govil said, "I don't understand how they are going to answer to the people who elected them. Is that what they have been elected for? This is shameful."
We also found the same video on Youtube by CNBC Awaaz which shows Arun Govil making the entire statement while responding to a question about the SIR in Bihar.
What's happening in the Lok Sabha?: The monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, from 21 July to 21 August, has been marked by sharp political clashes, especially over recent military operations and electoral roll issues in Bihar.
The opposition, led by the Congress and INDIA bloc, protested inside and outside the House over alleged voter list tampering in Bihar.
Conclusion: The video of MP Arun Govil outside Lok Sabha being circulated over internet is misrepresented with the wrong context.
