A video showing a stone-pelting incident at a residential society, with security guards and outsiders throwing stones at each other.

The claim: Those sharing claimed that this event took place in a Noida society, where a Bangladeshi Muslim domestic worker was employed in a residence and was caught stealing.

  • The post further claims that residents apprehended her and barred other working women from her neighbourhood from coming to work in their society.

  • The post also claimed that several women from the alleged Bangladeshi colony came to the society and created chaos by yelling slogans.

An archive of the post can be found here.

(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is misleading as the incident is not recent.

  • This incident took place in Noida's Mahagun Moderne society in 2017, where a mob pelted stones at the society after a domestic help was allegedly assaulted by one of the residents.

  • The residents, however, claimed that the domestic help was caught stealing money and was detained because of the same.

What we found: At first, we ran a relevant keyword search to find if any such incident had occurred in Noida. However, we did not find any recent or reliable reports to prove the credibility of the claim.

  • We, then, divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search. It led us to a video published by The Quint in 2017.

  • It included similar frames as the viral video. The video mentioned that a domestic worker was allegedly attacked by her employer in Mahagun Moderne in Noida Sector 78, leading a big crowd from the aggrieved worker's locality to pelting stones and sloganeering outside the society.

  • Aaj Tak had also published a video on this incident in 2017

  • We, then, ran a relevant keyword search and found news reports regarding this incident.

  • India Today's report from 2017 noted that a domestic worker named Zohra Bibi had a dispute with her employer over her salary.

  • The worker claimed she was beaten up and locked up by her employer, while the employer alleged that Zohra had stolen money from the house and confessed to it.

  • When Zohra's family members went to inquire about her, they were allegedly beaten up, leading to a violent protest by a mob of domestic workers who pelted stones at the apartment complex.

  • The Hindustan Times also covered this incident in Noida in 2017.

  • A week later, it was reported that the authorities demolished the settlements where the domestic workers lived.

Conclusion: An old video has gone viral to falsely claim that Bangladeshi migrants attacked people at a Noida society recently.
