No, Sydney Metro Train in the Viral Video Is Not ‘Made In India’
Viral posts with video of a double-decker train in Sydney falsely claimed that it was manufactured in India.
CLAIM
A video of a double-decker train from Sydney with a 'Made in India' claim went viral on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.

The caption said "22 metro trains were Made operational in Sydney yesterday! A Matter of 🇮🇳 pride, all these trains were MADE IN INDIA! First time in History- Coaches Made in India being run in a foreign land! When PM Modi said New India, this is what he meant!"
The video was massively shared on Facebook as well.
According to the tweet made on 23 July, 22 metro trains were made operational in Sydney a day before.
FACT
The claim made along the video is incorrect on two fronts. Although the train is functioning in Sydney, it was not manufactured India and was not made operational on 22 July.
With a simple Google reverse image search, one can find the video on YouTube which was uploaded on 2018.
The train was also not manufactured in India.
Under a project finalised in 2014, Alstom’s Sricity facility in Andhra Pradesh delivered 22 Metropolis trains for Sydney Metro.
The contract was given to Alstom to deliver 22 six-car trainsets, as well as the CBTC signalling system, for North West Rail Link.
The trains delivered under the project were made operational on 26 May 2019.
However, the metro train shown in the viral video is a double-decker, and the train under the Alstom project is single-decker.
A video of the suggestive train plan on Sydney Metro website shows an interior which is entirely different from the one in the viral video.
The design and pictures of the train on the website also shows a single-decker.
The train in the viral video is actually a Waratah train and was manufactured by Reliance Rail, which is not an Indian company.
Reliance Rail has manufactured and is maintaining Sydney’s new Waratah trains.
