A post on X shared by one Jon Yongfook on 10 June about allegedly being fired from Apple has gone viral on social media platforms.

What does the post say?:

"I was fired by Apple today. Me and my design team have spent the last 18 months tirelessly testing different levels of Gaussian blur on backgrounds when foreground elements are in focus. If you are looking for experts in the blur, glass liquid, grass or fur UI space, lmk."

Media outlets such as Republic TV, Gulf News and News 24 also published reports about this claim.

(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

  • Team WebQoof found that X user Jon Yongfook is not employed by Apple.

  • The user subsequently explained that his message regarding being dismissed due to iOS 26’s Liquid Glass design was intended as 'satire'.

What we found: We looked up Yongfook’s profiles on X and LinkedIn which did not indicate that he was employed by Apple or headed a design team.

  • His 'bio' indicated that Yongfook is the creator of Bannerbear, a SaaS platform focused on automated image creation, and a previous worker at Aviva.

Here is a screenshot of the user's profile.

Here are listed work experiences mentioned on Yongfook’s LinkedIn profile.

  • The user responded to his own post stating that the initial one was a 'satire.' He also wrote, "I've been enjoying the puns. I've been an Apple user for 20+ years, this is the worst UI I've seen, I hope they tweak it." (sic.)

  • As per a 9 June press release by Apple, Alan Dye, the company's vice president of Human Interface Design introduced the new Liquid Glass.

  • Dye noted, "This is our broadest software design update ever. Meticulously crafted by rethinking the fundamental elements that make up our software, the new design features an entirely new material called Liquid Glass." (sic.)

Conclusion: The post was a satire by Yongfook about being fired from Apple, however, media outlets and social media users perceived it otherwise.
