An old video from Maharashtra's Kolhapur is being falsely shared as one from Bengaluru showing people celebrating RCB's win in IPL 2025.

A video showing a crowd dancing and celebrating on streets is going viral on social media.

The users sharing this video are claiming that it is a recent clip from Karnataka's Bengaluru and shows people celebrating Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory in IPL 2025.

What's the truth?: This video dates back to June 2024 and is from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

  • It shows people celebrating India's victory against South Africa in T20 World Cup.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video using Google lens and this led us to an old Facebook post shared on 30 June 2024.

  • The caption stated that the video shows people celebrating India's victory against South Africa in T20 World Cup which happened in 29 June 2024.

  • We found another Instagram post carrying a similar video and it clearly showed board with Marathi text on it.

  • Taking a cue, we looked for shops 'Malkar sweet shop' and found the same shop, lane and boards in Kavlapur, Kolhapur.

Conclusion: An old video from Maharashtra's Kolhapur is being falsely shared as one from Bengaluru showing people celebrating RCB's win in IPL 2025.
