CLAIM

An Instagram post featuring a picture of the late rapper Xxxtentacion having been found alive in 2019 has been doing the rounds. This image was posted on 15 April 2019.

The Instagram account @lmaoskooly has a current following of 37.3k. The post states that he was found alive during the search of a missing kid. Apparently, during the search, the police found a house in the middle of the woods where they found him. The same post claims that he has been taken into custody and will be serving a sentence of six months.

In addition to this, a story claiming that he had staged his own death was published on the website Trend-news.com. This has since been archived.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The image being shared in the post is actually from his trial in December 2017. In addition to this, the story on Trend-news.com cannot be believed as the website is primarily used to create pranks.

This is clear from its ‘About Us’ section, which states that the website contains “jokes that are created by users.”

Therefore, the claim that he has been found alive in 2019 is false.

WHERE IS THE PICTURE FROM?

On 15 December 2017, various websites wrote about Xxxtentacion being arrested on account of seven new felony charges arising against him. TMZ reported that these new charges were in connection with his 2016 domestic violence case.

The rapper was shot and killed outside a motor sports store in Deerfield Beach, Fla., on on 18 June 2018 reported The New York Times. The same was confirmed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

On doing an image search on Google about the rapper being jailed and filtering the images for a time range of the past year, the same image as that of the Instagram post pops up.

This image was used for a story by Drillking which had to do with the seven felony charges against the rapper and was published on 15 December 2017.
