CLAIM
A set of photos comparing Rahul Gandhi filing his nomination in Amethi to Narendra Modi filing his nomination from Varanasi is gaining traction on social media.
The photo, captioned "Naamdar vs Kaamdar", shows Gandhi sitting as he hands over the papers, while Modi is seen with his hands folded in front of the retuning officer, implying that Gandhi did not 'show respect' as the PM did.
This photo has been shared time and again by several accounts across social media platforms.
TRUE OR FALSE?
While the photo of Gandhi certainly makes it appear as though he was sitting while filing his nomination, the truth is that the returning officer was seated on a higher dais than Gandhi, and the table between them gives the illusion of Gandhi sitting.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
Upon looking through footage of Gandhi's nomination filing, it was ascertained that the Congress president, along with his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were indeed standing in front of the dais.
The following clip of the event from Rajya Saha TV shows the trio from a different angle, making this clear. In the video, the Gandhi family is seen standing with their backs to their camera as the Congress president filed his nomination.
Coverage of the nomination submission by various other media channels also showed that the Gandhi family was indeed standing, and not sitting, as claimed by the viral posts.
FIRST AMIT SHAH, NOW MODI
This claim was earlier viral, comparing Gandhi to BJP President Amit Shah, attempting to show the supposed "difference" between the presidents of both the parties.
This claim was then debunked by Alt News.
