Army Hasn’t Decided to Not Return Terrorists’ Bodies to Families

The fake news has resurfaced on Facebook months after a video posted by ABP News made similar claims.

After the attack on security forces in Pulwama on 14 February several posts have gone viral on social media which are, to say the least, factually incorrect.

CLAIM

A Facebook page Modi'fied 2019 has put up a post which makes claims about Army’s decision on dead bodies of terrorists that it kills.

The text in the post roughly translates to: “Big decision by the Indian Army. The dead bodies of terrorists will no longer be handed over to their families. The bodies will be buried where they are killed. Is the Army’s decision a correct one?”

TRUE OR FALSE?

The Quint spoke to Army sources who confirmed that it has not taken any such decision.

The post had been shared 264 times on Facebook at the time this article was written. A video posted by ABP News, back in June 2018, also makes similar claims.

The description box of the video says: “The Army has also changed its strategy and has decided to no more hand over the dead bodies of JeM, LeT, or ISIS terrorists to their respective families. In fact, they would be buried by the Army at a secret location.”

Responding to the post, an Army spokesperson said, “The claim is absolutely false. The Army has taken no such decision and it is beyond even the figment of imagination for us to think of something like this”.
