No, PM Modi Didn’t Have Dinner With Pak PM Imran Khan

CLAIM

A picture showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi wearing a green skull cap and feasting with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has been doing the rounds on social media.

The picture has gone viral with several captions to an image showing the prime ministers of both countries sharing a feast together.

The image is being circulated on WhatsApp, with a caption which asks PM Modi to answer the families of the soldiers martyred in the Pulwama attack as to why Pakistan wants him to win the elections.

The message further questions Modi ,“Is there some ‘deep secret ‘behind this friendship or is there some sort of benefit Pakistan plans to derive from you (Modi)?”

The picture in question has been making rounds on WhatsApp in light of the Pulwama attack . 

The same picture has gone viral on Facebook along with a caption written in Hindi which translates to, “The maulana in the green skull cap looks familiar”.

The post was first posted by Facebook user Sujit Yadav and had close to 3.2k shares at the time this article was written.

The same image was found on ShareChat with the caption in Hindi which translates to “Modi Government should come back in power” with a hashtag ‘#Vasir_Ajam_Imran_Khan_Pakistan’

The post has been shared by a user called Indian and has 24 likes and 6 shares.

TRUE OR FALSE ?

On conducting a reverse image search on Google The Quint found out that the image is doctored.

The person sitting beside Imran Khan in the original picture is his second wife Reham Khan.

This picture was in turn traced back to a news bulletin by 92 News HD from July 2015, shared on siasat.pk, a discussion forum in Pakistan. According to the bulletin, the photos are from a Sehri feast at Pakistani minister Faisal Wada’s residence.

WHERE IS PM MODI’s PHOTO FROM?

On cropping the image of Prime Minister Modi from the doctored image and conducting a reverse search image, The Quint found out that Prime Minister Modi was never captured wearing a green skull cap as shown in the viral image.

The search engine which shows the original picture of PM Modi sans the skull cap. 

The original picture of PM Modi was traced back to The IndianExpress’s photo gallery from 13 November 2013.

The picture, taken from when Modi was Gujarat’s chief minister, shows him in his residence in Gandhinagar. The picture has been attributed to Javed Raja and is from a lunch meeting with journalists.

Clearly, the picture has been doctored and used by people to fuel their agendas.
