Photos of PM Modi ‘Taking Holy Dip at Kumbh Mela’ Are From 2004
The photos are from 2004, when Modi attended the Hindu festival, Ujjain Simhastha, in Madhya Pradesh.
THE CLAIM
A post, which claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a holy dip in Uttar Pradesh during the Kumbh Mela, has been doing the rounds on social media.
The post, shared by the Facebook page We Support Nationalism, claims that the photos were from Prayagraj, where the Kumbh Mela is presently underway.
It has 3,000 social media interactions, and was shared nearly 400 times at the time of writing this article.
The post was also shared by several other groups and individual users on Facebook.
THE TRUTH
A reverse search of the images revealed that while the photos were authentic, they were not from the ongoing ‘Ardh Kumbh Mela’ in Prayagraj.
The search also threw up a Naiduniya-Jagran report that confirmed the photos were from 2004, when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat.
In the photos, he is seen taking a holy dip during the 2004 Ujjain Simhastha, a Hindu festival held every 12 years on the banks of the Shipra river in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.
