Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy, on Twitter, claimed that a media-circulated BJP poster of the jawans who were martyred in Pulwama actually carried the photos of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorists.

In response to Swamy's tweet, a user had put up a photo of policemen saluting a poster which carried the photos of the martyred ‘jawans’.

WHERE WERE THESE POSTERS PUT UP?

Taking this tweet as cue, we conducted a reverse image search of the photo, and found the photo on a Pakistan Defence forum website.

A thread on the website displayed several similar photos from across Tamil Nadu, where the posters carried the mugshots of the 'jawans’ – which also included women.

In Coimbatore district's Udayampalayam, the posters were put up by workers from actor Rajinikanth's Rajini Makkal Mandram.

In Tiruvannamalai district's Vandavasi too, the posters were seen – put up by a workers' union.

The thread also showed the poster having been put up by a BJP unit, with the party flag flying above the poster.

WERE THE PHOTOS IN THE POSTER THAT OF THE PULWAMA MARTYRS?

The people in the posters certainly are not the martyred CRPF jawans from the Pulwama terror attack.

The official Twitter handle of the CRPF on 15 February shared the photos of the martyred CRPF jawans, and they do not match the ones in the above posters.

Then who are they? Another reverse image of one of the photos led us to another website called 'Eelam View', where the same poster was used to announce the deaths of some LTTE fighters. The article was published on 6 March 2014.

These posters were also called out by several local Tamil websites such as ‘The Subeditor’ and Senpakam.org.
