CLAIM

A photo of woman dressed in military camouflage has gone viral as a female soldier guarding the deserts of Rajasthan.

The text along with the photo, shared by the Facebook page "हिंदुस्थानी सेना", reads: ‘राजस्थान के तपते रेगिस्तान में पहरा देती भारतीय जवान जय हिंद.’

The post had over 1.7k shares at the time of writing this article.

TRUE OR FALSE?

Well, the claim is false since the woman seen in the post is neither Indian and nor is she guarding the deserts of Rajasthan in the 'scorching heat', as claimed.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

A simple reverse image search on Google led to several articles on the woman, who was famously called 'Kurdish Angelina Jolie', owing to her resemblance to the actor.

The woman, Asia Ramazan Antar, was actually a Kurdish female fighter, who was killed by Islamic State (IS) militants in northern Syria in August 2016.

According to BBC, 19-year-old Antar joined the Kurdish Women's Protection Units (YPG) in 2015 to fight the Islamic State.

A team leader and machine-gunner, Antar reportedly died while atttempting to stop an attack by three suicide car bombers.
